In June 2024, I decided to launch a fundraising campaign to raise money for an art showcase i dreamed up only a month prior. i've had experience with raising money for non-profits, but this was the pursuit of a dream I fully believed in.
I had just exhibited photography at international house in the beginning of 2024, and i was inspired to create something similar-- but with a focus on the folks who are the most socially and politically vulnerable. by the end of 2024, it was apparent how needed it was.
I wanted the showcase to be more than just showing work. I wanted it to be an opportunity for folks who, because of our identities and circumstances, are not granted the privileges to access wealth, to make money. so it was an art show with the sole focus to elevate my communities.
all artists lived in the intersection of being people of color, immigrants or children of immigrants, and trans or gender non-conforming.
This was my first big project: I fundraised, I organized, I designed the material, I exhibited, and I created. It will not be my last.
